Bracknell BID unveils new subway mural

A subway that has been transformed into a bright and positive message about sustainability, community and green energy has been officially unveiled in Bracknell.

.

The revamped underpass mural was painted by nationally acclaimed, award-winning artist Lynne Hollingsworth and a team of local volunteers over several days in September and was funded by Bracknell Business Improvement District (BID).

.

The subway, which runs under Berkshire Way and connects the Southern and Western Business Areas in Bracknell between Downmill Road and Oldbury, is regularly used by pedestrians and cyclists who work in the area.

.

The new mural was unveiled by the MP for Bracknell James Sunderland, members of the Bracknell BID Board Peter Smith and Bob Collis, BID Manager Sean Griffin, and Sue Pitt, one of the volunteers who gave her time to work on the mural, on Friday 15 October.

.

Maria Sabey, Chair of Bracknell BID, said: “We are delighted to officially unveil the bright new mural and hope that it makes a nice change to the hundreds of people who use it every week.

.

“We have funded the mural, which forms part of our wider strategy to improve pedestrian and cycleway links throughout the BID area, and we are very grateful to Lynne and all the volunteers who generously gave their time to help paint it.”

.

The new colourful mural has been warmly welcomed by regular users of the footpath.

.

One worker from the nearby Waitrose said: “Please can I say a huge thank you to the lovely ladies who have painted the subway, and all who commissioned it.

“My walk to work has certainly been made brighter, and everyone I know thinks it looks really good and coupled with a contemporary theme. It’s great to see people stop and admire it.”

The Bracknell BID is scheduled to run until March 2025 and aims to deliver infrastructure improvements and increased business growth and investment to the Southern and Western Business Areas.
