Bracknell BID Fire Marshal Training

On Thursday 24th October 2024, Bracknell BID arranged and funded a Fire Marshal course for employees within the Southern and Western business areas.

This course was held in line with objectives and provided an accredited session which enabled those attending to learn various topics, participate in hands on demonstrations, see real life examples and complete a short theory test in order to receive their three year certificate. All of those attending passed the course and are now qualified as Level 2 ‘Principles of Fire Safety and Role of Fire Marshals’.

The course began with introductions from BID manager Sean Griffin explaining what the BID offer and housekeeping prior to the course beginning. The course was run by JJ Medics, a training provider who offer multiple courses for businesses from First aid to forklift operations and manual handling.

The spaces filled quickly for this course and 12 attendees were lucky enough to participate in the three hour session. It is a legal requirement that every company needs trained Fire Marshals on-site at all times. During this course, learners engaged in Fire Safety awareness & the safe use of extinguishers. Fire Marshals may also be expected to carry out other important duties, such as checking fire equipment or safety systems on a regular basis which were outlined and explained. Fire risk assessments were shown and attendees gained a better understanding of what these cover and the importance of fire safety.

The topics covered by the course were split into different sections:

  • Presentation talk & DVD
  • Role of the Fire Marshal
  • Planning escape routes
  • Area clearance & evacuation
  • Identifying Fire Hazards
  • Fire behaviour & fire spread
  • Types of extinguishers
  • Record keeping
  • Includes of CO2 extinguisher
  • Mock Risk assessment
  • Theory Test

We would like to thank JJ Medics for running this interactive and beneficial course for BID area employees. As well as Regus for hosting the event and all of those attendees who participated from various businesses.
