Bracknell BID’s Shared Cycle Scheme makes it easier than ever for those working within the Western and Southern Business Areas to travel sustainably, stay active and explore the local area — all completely free of charge. Recently enhanced, the scheme now includes an even greater number of bikes, improving availability and making it easier for more users to take advantage of this convenient and eco-friendly travel option.
Available exclusively to employees within the BID area, the scheme offers access to a fleet of electric and standard bikes, conveniently located at hubs across the Western and Southern Business Areas, Bracknell Town Centre and Bracknell Train Station. Whether commuting to work, attending meetings or enjoying a lunchtime ride, the scheme provides a flexible and eco-friendly way to get around.
Getting started is simple. Eligible users can sign up to the Donkey Republic app using their work email address, where they can locate, unlock and return bikes at designated hubs. With no membership fees and up to 12 hours per rental, it’s a convenient and cost-effective alternative to driving.
The Shared Cycle Scheme supports healthier lifestyles, reduces congestion and contributes to a greener Bracknell – helping businesses and employees move smarter every day.
This initiative directly supports Bracknell BID’s objectives around Transport and Moving Around by increasing the availability of cost‑effective, shared travel options (Objective 1a) and actively encouraging cycling across the BID area (Objective 1b). By providing easy access to bikes and promoting their use for commuting and short journeys, the scheme helps reduce reliance on cars while improving connectivity between key locations.
It also contributes to the BID’s Carbon Reduction goals by supporting businesses and employees in adopting more sustainable, low‑emission travel choices (Objective 2c), helping to lower the overall carbon footprint of the business community.
In addition, the initiative supports Facilities and Benefits Objective 1 – sub Obj. 2(b) by helping to create a stronger sense of community, wellbeing and engagement among staff, encouraging healthier lifestyles and contributing to improved staff retention and productivity.
