Bracknell BID – Shared Cycle Scheme

In partnership with Bainton Bikes and Donkey Republic, Bracknell BID have created and funded a FREE shared cycle scheme for employees of the Southern and Western business areas. These bike hubs provide a shared bicycle scheme, in which employees of the Bracknell BID area can use both e-bikes and standard bikes to travel.

This project aligns with objective 1, infrastructure and hopes to improve access providing an environmentally friendly travel option for BID area employees. Donkey Republic is a global bike sharing service enabling users to save time and money to travel economically, the app is user friendly and provides help and tips to use the bikes.

The bikes are easy to access and once the Donkey Republic app has been downloaded and you have created an account, you are able to see a map with orange pins locating the bikes. The information on the bike will relate to the app, use this information and corresponding number to unlock the bike. You can make as many stops on your route as you like as long as it is stopped and locked securely. Once the ride is finished, click ‘return bike’, for directions to the drop off and then click ‘end ride’. These can be returned to the same or another hub and locked again for other users.

Bikes can be located at:

  • Bracknell Train Station
  • Waitrose Bond Way
  • Trade City, Western Road
  • Trade City, Easthampstead Road
  • Farleymoor Lake
  • Waitrose, Oldbury

HOW TO  RENT A BIKE? Open the app and you’ll see a map of the city with orange pins – these mark our pick-up locations. Select the location you prefer and choose the number of vehicles you want to rent from there. Then find the vehicles and unlock them via the app.

HOW DO I PICK UP THE BIKE? You will get directions to your pick-up location. Once you are there, look at the info panel on the handlebar or the name sticker on the frame to find the vehicle which matches the name in the app. Then press the Unlock button.

CAN I STOP ON MY ROUTE? During the rental period you can unlock and lock the vehicle you rented as many times as you want. Just make sure to park it nicely and to lock it safely when you make a stop.

HOW DO I RETURN THE BIKE? If you don’t need the vehicle anymore, press the Return button. You will get directions to the closest drop-off location. Once you are there press End rental and follow the instructions in the app. Make sure that the vehicle is locked.

WHERE CAN I RETURN THE BIKE? Our virtual drop-off system gives you the flexibility of picking up a Donkey bike from one location and returning it to a different spot. Occasionally drop-off locations may reach capacity and become temporarily unavailable. Additionally some vehicle types have designated drop-off locations. But don’t worry, when you’re ready to end your rental, the app will show you the available drop-off locations you can use. Please help keep the city tidy. There are penalty fees if you don’t return your Donkey bike to a drop-off location when you end your rental.
