On Wednesday 15th October 2025, Bracknell BID funded and organised a comprehensive Fire Marshal training course held at the Capitol Building, located within the Southern Business Area. This initiative was part of Bracknell BID’s ongoing efforts to support health and safety awareness and training for businesses within the local area. The course was designed to equip participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to take on the responsibilities of a designated Fire Marshal in the workplace.
The training session offered a combination of theoretical instruction and practical exercises, creating an interactive and hands-on learning experience for all attendees. Delivered by experienced trainers, the course provided in-depth guidance on the role of a Fire Marshal, helping individuals understand their duties not only in the event of a fire but also as part of ongoing fire prevention measures within the workplace.
Participants were guided through several key areas, starting with an introductory presentation and video that outlined the importance of fire safety and the role Fire Marshals play in ensuring a safe environment for employees and visitors. The course covered how to plan and assess escape routes, carry out area clearance and evacuation procedures, and identify common fire hazards in various workplace settings. Attendees also learned about fire behaviour and how fires can spread depending on their environment and fuel sources.
A significant part of the course was dedicated to understanding different types of fire extinguishers, including the correct usage of a CO2 extinguisher. Participants engaged in practical demonstrations that helped reinforce the theoretical aspects of fire suppression, giving them the confidence to respond effectively in real-life situations. The training also included guidance on record keeping and the legal obligations associated with fire safety documentation, as well as conducting mock fire risk assessments to apply their learning in simulated scenarios.
The course concluded with a multiple-choice theory assessment, ensuring each participant had understood the content and could apply it accurately in a workplace setting. Upon successful completion of the course and assessment, each attendee received a Fire Marshal training certificate. This qualification is valid for three years from the date of completion and serves as formal recognition of their ability to perform fire safety duties responsibly and effectively.
Bracknell BID is proud to support initiatives like this that not only improve safety standards across the business district but also empower employees with the skills and confidence needed to act decisively in emergency situations. We would like to thank the Capitol Building for hosting, and all of those who attended this valuable session.
