Bracknell BID organised a Basic Life Support Awareness Training Course at the Lightbox, Bracknell on 11th September 2025, delivered by Chris of the South Central Ambulance Charity. The session was designed to equip people in the workplace with the essential skills and confidence needed to save a life.
Over the two-and-a-half-hour course, attendees from BID area businesses received both theoretical and practical training. They were introduced to the primary survey using the memorable acronym DR ABC (Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing, Circulation), before moving on to practical demonstrations.
Participants learned how to:
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and practise chest compressions on mannequins with digital feedback tools to help improve technique.
- Use an automated external defibrillator (AED), with Chris, a local Community First Responder, showing how the device guides users step-by-step, even without prior training.
- Recognise and respond to emergencies such as choking, anaphylactic shock, and heart attacks.
- Place an unresponsive casualty into the recovery position.
These training courses are hosted by the South Central Ambulance Charity, which raises vital funds to support South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. Bracknell BID would like to thank Chris, the South Central Ambulance Service and the Lightbox for their support in making the event possible.
If your business would like to take part in future Basic Life Support Awareness Training Courses, please contact the BID team at enquiries@bracknellbid.co.uk.
According to the South Central Ambulance Service, fewer than one in ten people in the UK survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Two of the main reasons for this are a lack of people willing or able to perform CPR, and the limited availability of defibrillators.
Bracknell BID is committed to improving workplace safety by addressing both issues. As well as hosting regular Basic Life Support Awareness Training Courses, the BID has also funded and installed six publicly accessible defibrillators within the area, supported by clear navigation signage to raise awareness of their locations.
