Meet the Board: Helen Barnett, Frasers Property

Tell us a little bit about you and your company

I’m the Senior Placemaking Manager for Frasers Property UK, owners of Maxis in Bracknell. We’re part of Frasers Property Limited, a multinational company headquartered in Singapore. Our focus is on creating sustainable, engaging places that support thriving business communities.

Can you give us some background to your working career?

I began my career at Condé Nast Publications before moving into property with Kingfisher plc. I then spent thirteen years as Head of Marketing and Communications at the Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, working with Schroders and Legal & General on the town centre regeneration.
Afterwards, I took on the role of Town & Community Manager for Henley Town Council, supporting local businesses through Covid. In 2021, I joined Frasers Property UK.

Why are you a BID board director and why do you volunteer your time for the local business community?

I was previously a Governor at Bracknell & Wokingham College for eight years and have always enjoyed giving back to the community. I believe the BID’s initiatives like the landscaping projects, pond improvements, shuttle bus, cycle scheme, and occupier activities have a real, positive impact across the BID area.

Why are you passionate about the Bracknell BID area?

The BID helps raise standards across the district and gives smaller businesses access to opportunities they might not achieve alone. It creates a stronger, more unified business community.

What skills and experience do you bring to the BID board?

I bring a varied background in placemaking, stakeholder engagement, marketing and communications, as well as in-depth knowledge of the Bracknell area. I’m passionate about creating practical initiatives that deliver long-term value.

What projects or initiatives that the BID has delivered are you most proud of?

The “Meet Your Neighbour” initiative stands out as a great example of bringing the community together. I’m also proud to see the BID enter its second term, which speaks to its success and relevance.

What difference do you hope the BID will have made in the next five years?

I’d like to see the BID continue to support business retention and attraction, making the area more appealing to companies of all sizes and helping to drive economic growth.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I enjoy cooking for friends and family, playing tennis, keeping fit, walking in the countryside, and travelling.

What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve been given?

Treat people the way you’d like to be treated. It’s a simple principle, but one that always holds true.
